Handmade raku fired tea jar ~

Raku firing is an ancient Japanese ceramics technique that has been used for many centuries to create unique finishes to pottery.

This pot is “naked raku”, meaning there is no glaze applied to the surface. The jar was removed from the fire at 1800 degrees and horse hair was applied. This burning process creates the surface design.

Raku-fired pieces are best suited for dry goods only, as they are fired at a lower temperature and are still porous.
